Everton: Sean Dyche shares January transfer update at Goodison Park amid 777 Partners takeover checks

Sean Dyche has revealed it is likely to be a quiet January transfer window for Everton, while checks are ongoing ahead of the potential 777 Partners takeover.

The boss claimed that the club would have to be in the right situation to get a deal over the line, after having to work around the Financial Fair Play situation Everton found themselves in.

BBC journalist Shamoon Hafez also shared an update from Dyche’s press conference, with the boss confirming checks are continuing over the 777 takeover bid, but no deal has been reached yet.

Speaking in his press conference [Sky Sports, 3 January], the boss shared: “To do any deal, there has to be finance… the club has to be in the situation to do the deal.

“We had to work very hard, Kev [Thelwell] certainly had to work hard to construct deals that could be worked into the way the club were in the summer.

“He managed to do that, as we said, and managed to rebalance the squad the best we could, we had to lose some players as well.

“The situation is similar but different, you never know the twists and turns of football, how deals present themselves, but at this moment in time it’s very likely to be quiet.”

Another quiet January

Everton were the only Premier League club not to get a January deal over the line last year, and Dyche will be hoping he doesn’t have to face a repeat of his first weeks in charge of the club as the clubs around him strengthened in the market.

With the relegation situation as perilous as it is, with the ten-point deduction followed up by the threat of further sanctions, Everton will need reinforcements if they want to avoid the teams around them gaining another advantage.

After the previous breaches of financial regulations, the club remains in a tricky situation with regard to spending, with Dyche aware of that and moving to ease expectations among fans, however disappointing that may be.

The takeover talks involving 777 Partners have dragged on longer than anybody expected, with hopes originally that it would be concluded before the January transfer window, but with checks ongoing, it looks unlikely Everton will receive that boost in the immediate future.
