Kieran Maguire shares Everton admission as fresh FFP concern emerges, ‘A lot of guesswork’
There has been a lot of guesswork made in the financial fair play (FFP) accusations aimed at Everton, according to Kieran Maguire.
The Times reported on Tuesday (2 January) that the Toffees will find out in the next two weeks whether they will receive a second penalty for breaching the Premier League’s rules regarding financial fair play (FFP), with Nottingham Forest and Chelsea also at risk.
But the football finance expert tweeted on Tuesday that the Blues’ sale of academy graduate Anthony Gordan to Newcastle United in January 2023 will absorb a lot of the losses as they look to avoid another punishment.
Wait and see
It’s going to be a tense wait for Everton and their fans to find out whether or not the club will receive another punishment in two weeks.
The previous ruling by an independent panel in November to deduct them 10 points was viewed by many onlookers as a harsh decision.
That has landed the Toffees bang in trouble again as they sit just one point above the Premier League relegation zone heading into the second half of the campaign.

If they were to receive a similar punishment, which doesn’t seem likely at this stage following Maguire’s update, that would be a major blow to their survival hopes.
Sean Dyche will once again be looking to block out all the noise, though, as the Blues’ performances have been much better during this campaign compared to previous years.
In other Everton news, Paul Brown has mooted a new contract for an exit-linked Toffees player.
