Alan Brazil urges Arsenal to sign Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin in new January transfer verdict

Alan Brazil has urged Arsenal to move to sign Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin during the January transfer window, suggesting he would solve the Gunners’ striker problem.

The England international was sent off in controversial circumstances after a lengthy VAR check during the second half of the Toffees 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace in their FA Cup clash on Thursday 4 December.

Despite his red card on Thursday evening, talkSPORT presenter Brazil has urged Arsenal to make a move for Everton forward this month as he believes Mikel Arteta’s side could take advantage of the financial situation at Goodison Park.

Speaking on talkSPORT (5 January, 6:12) he said: “I was thinking last night, Arsenal are desperate for a centre-forward. Would you not take a chance with Calvert-Lewin? You pay the money, you’ll get him and I think he’d fancy a move.

“Everton fans will go mad at me, I don’t know the situation there with the finance at Goodison, who knows what’s going on with the new stadium, etc. I’m talking about from an Arsenal point of view.”

Can’t let him go

Everton need to keep Calvert-Lewin at Goodison Park for the remainder of the season. The striker is crucial to the Toffees’ style under the management of Dyche and it would be a huge blow to lose him for the second half of the campaign.

The Toffees aren’t blessed with many options at the top end of the pitch and should the England international leave Goodison this month, Dyche would be left with Beto, Youseff Chermiti and Lewis Dobbin as his only genuine striking options.

That would not be enough for Everton to climb the Premier League table and avoid relegation at the end of the season. Calvert-Lewin may not be the most prolific, but he is an integral part of the Toffees system and helps those around him flourish.

Hopefully, Arsenal won’t take transfer tips off of Brazil this January and will look elsewhere for a new striker this January. It seems unlikely that the Gunners would be keen to sign the Everton striker as he doesn’t really fit Arteta’s style at the Emirates.
