Don Hutchison goes beserk at ‘Absolutely Nuts’ decision in Everton draw v Crystal Palace

Don Hutchison couldn’t believe his eyes after Dominic Calvert-Lewin was sent off in the 0-0 draw between Everton and Crystal Palace on Thursday night.

Writing on his personal Twitter account (4 January), the former Toffees midfielder wrote that the striker’s red card was “absolutely nuts” after a VAR review saw him receive the first dismissal of his career.

And Hutchison was so aggrieved by the decision that he suggested a manager could haul his team off the pitch one day in protest at a bad VAR decision.

“A manager one day (no idea what league) will drag his team off the pitch at some point,” he wrote.

“It’s absolutely nuts… games gone.”

Crazy

Nobody with eyes believed that Calvert-Lewin’s tackle was a red card, including Crystal Palace and Everton players that were on the pitch.

The tackle was slightly high but there was zero force in it, nobody was endangered and the contact might have moved Nathaniel Clyne’s shin pad by half an inch at most.

Everton

Obviously it wasn’t worth a red card. It wasn’t even a yellow card and it was barely a foul, yet somehow the club are set to miss the striker for the next three games now.

The reaction and uproar to the decision shows that most of the footballing world is on the same page with this, but once again it was the referees and officials in charge who influenced the game the most and had something to say about it.

Hopefully they’ll see the error in their ways now that the appeal has gone in and the ban will be rescinded, but serious questions need to be asked about the level of officiating in this country.
