Everton: Kevin Campbell makes Premier League relegation prediction as outgoings expected at Goodison Park

Kevin Campbell expects there to be some outgoing transfer activity at Everton this month, but he still believes his former club will “be okay” in their fight to avoid Premier League relegation.

The Toffees have already been linked with numerous players, while others – Arnaut Danjuma and Andre Gomes among them – have been tipped to depart Goodison Park.

Ex-Everton player Campbell says the club will have to be savvy with their transfer business as they attempt to retain their long-running status as a top-flight club.

“I think Everton have to box clever, they have to be smart in what they want to do if there is recruitment to bring they’re going to have to move and shake,” he told Sky Sports News [4 January, 10:30am].

“There might be some outgoings, they may have to structure some loan deals if possible, but the key is to get the quality in to help the team in the league – Premier League status is everything.

“I think Everton will be okay but the key is you’ve got to to do it on the pitch. They’ve gone off the boil a little bit they have to get back on the boil.”

Big month

The January window presents Everton with a chance to strengthen for the remainder of the campaign, and manager Sean Dyche will no doubt have a few targets in mind.

While the club may wish to bring in players for the future during the summer, the winter window is more for the here and now. After all, the Toffees still cannot guarantee they will be a top-flight club come the end of May.

Bringing in a player or two will likely mean one or two departing, however, with Gomes supposedly wanted by clubs abroad and Danjuma potentially being recalled by Villarreal owing to a lack of playing time.

It has been fairly quiet on the transfer front so far, but expect that to change as the month goes on. Results should not impact business, but defeat against Aston Villa next week and those behind the scenes may start getting twitchy.

In other Everton news, the Toffees have been linked with a player from a Premier League rival.
