Everton: talkSPORT pundit drops ‘absolute joke’ Dominic Calvert-Lewin verdict after incident v Crystal Palace

Jamie O’Hara cannot believe that Dominic Calvert-Lewin was sent off for Everton in their FA Cup game against Crystal Palace on Thursday (4 January).

Taking to Twitter to vent his frustrations at the decision on Thursday, the talkSPORT pundit said “wow” as he accused VAR of ruining the game after the 26-year-old forward was sent off for a challenge on Nathaniel Clyne in the 79th minute.

He added that it was an “absolute joke” as the England international is now set to miss the Toffees’ next three games, including the replay against the Eagles following the 0-0 draw at Selhurst Park.

Nobody understands

It’s becoming quite clear that nobody understands why referee Chris Kavanagh decided to send Calvert-Lewin off after being asked to go to the monitor by Craig Pawson on VAR.

But the problem isn’t the technology, it comes down to the people operating it not knowing what they are doing and making decisions based on images in slow motion.

There was a slight bit of contact from the forward with the Eagles defender’s leg, but it was by no means worthy of a sending-off, with the refereeing not even giving a foul in real time.

Everton

The Toffees are believed to be considering appealing the decision as they simply can’t afford to be without the Englishman for the next three matches.

With Luton Town breathing down their necks and other attackers failing to find any form this season, the Blues will be hoping their star striker will be handed a reprieve if they do decide to appeal the decision.
