Trabzonspor make move to sign Everton midfielder Andre Gomes in January transfer window

Turkish club Trabzonspor have made their move to sign Everton midfielder Andre Gomes this month with a contract offer made, according to Star.

Writing on their website (5 January), the Turkish news outlet report that the midfielder is one of the top targets for manager Abdullah Avci this month.

There are “hot hours” ahead for the transfer with an offer being evaluated by the player, with Gomes’ contract at Goodison Park set to expire in the summer.

“Trabzonspor took action for Everton star Andre Gomes, whom coach Abdullah Avcı wanted very much,” they wrote.

“Hot hours continue to be experienced in Trabzonspor. Shortly before the official opening of the transfer season, the claret-blue team started to work intensively on the high-level reinforcements to be made to the team.

“Finally, Andre Gomes, who played for Everton, came to the Storm’s agenda again, as in the summer season. The contract of the player that coach Abdullah Avcı wants to see in his team in the English team expires in the summer.

“For this reason, the offers received have been evaluated by both the player and the club.”

Expected

Gomes was all set to leave in the summer transfer window but a calf injury seemed to put an end to the move at the last minute, and kept him out of action until very recently.

But since Gomes has come back into the fold he has turned in some great performances, especially against Tottenham and shown that he does have a role to play.

Sean Dyche isn’t stacked with options for the centre of midfield right now, with Idrissa Gueye on his way to AFCON and both Amadou Onana and Abdoulaye Doucoure have been struggling with injuries.

Letting him go this month could see the club left shorter on options for the second half of the season, however financially it may be the best decision possible for the Toffees with the Portuguese international on big wages and out of contract in the summer.

This could be the last chance for the club to earn some money from this deal and get him off the wage books, so it’s one to keep an eye on for sure.
