‘Unforeseen factors’ raised as Everton brace themselves for Premier League financial breaches verdict

Everton experienced “unforeseen factors” that would have caused them a “headache” with regards to their latest financial accounts, according to The Telegraph.

The British outlet reported on its website on Monday [8 January] that the Toffees are confident of avoiding fresh sanctions after submitting their latest figures in December.

Everton were docked a record 10 points two months ago after being found guilty of breaching the Premier League’s financial regulations.

Clubs will find out on 15 January whether they face action with regards to their latest accounts, with any punishments to come into force before this season concludes.

The report read: “Telegraph Sport understands several Premier League clubs are on high alert as potential charges are announced.

“Sources close to Everton, already fighting to overturn a 10-point deduction, also maintain privately that they believe the Merseyside club are within this year’s limits.

“However, Amadou Onana, Dwight McNeil and Neal Maupay arrived for multi-million pound fees, and there were other unforeseen factors in the last campaign that will have been a headache.”

Right side of the line

Even the smallest of errors can have widespread ramifications, the biggest being relegation from the Premier League.

Everton worked so hard to claw themselves away from the bottom three after being docked 10 points, but they are now back in danger.

Any further points penalties would move the Toffees back to square one, but every indication is that the club have not breached the regulations.

Even accounting for these “unforeseen factors”, Everton have managed to bring money in to ensure they have stayed the right side of the line.

Still, it will be a relief to hear the verdict in a week’s time, giving the club one less thing to worry about.

Then all focus will be on the relegation battle on the field, while off it 777 Partners are still awaiting the green light to complete their takeover.

If nothing else, at least the coming weeks will not be boring.

In other Everton news, the Toffees may reportedly be forced to sell one of Sean Dyche’s regulars for less than they want.
