Arsenal to get ‘creative’ in negotiations over January transfer deal for Everton ace Amadou Onana

Everton may be forced to sell Amadou Onana for less than the £50million they are after amid interest from fellow Premier League side Arsenal, according to football.london.

The online publication reported on Monday (8 January) that Arsenal are exploring the possibility of bringing in the Belgium international during the January transfer window.

Onana, a £35m signing from Lille two-and-a-half years ago, is under contract at Goodison Park until the summer of 2027.

The football.london report read: “Arsenal may have to get creative in the January transfer window to get some deals over the line, but could have some help when it comes to their interest in Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.

“football.london understands that the Gunners are exploring the possibility of a deal for the Belgian international.

“football.london understands that the Toffees expect a fee in the region of £50million for Onana, however their financial situation could change that after some negotiations.”

The report adds: “Should another breach come their way, it may make for some changes to their accounts for this year and that may require some sales.

“That could be one reason that Arsenal could have a possible discount on that £50million price tag.”

Stand firm

Everton’s financial difficulties, shall we say, are well publicised and it appears rival clubs are taking notice.

The 10-point deduction was as a result of overspending by £19.5m over the period in question.

For all the talk of the club being in trouble, they are not in a position whereby they must sell assets now to stay afloat.

That could be the case further down the line if the 777 Partners takeover does not go through, but there is still hope that will not be the case.

Everton

While it is looking unlikely any permanent signings will be brought to Goodison Park this month, it may be that there is no outgoing activity either.

That would ultimately be a good thing, because Sean Dyche has a squad of players more than capable of avoiding the drop.

Onana is clearly a man in demand, though, with Manchester United also said to be interested, so these rumours will not be going anywhere.

In other Everton news, journalist Ben Jacobs has outlined a “risky” decision a player may have to make amid reported interest from the Toffees.
