Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist tip Arsenal to move for Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin if Ivan Toney bid fails

Arsenal have been tipped to make a move for Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin if they fail in their bid to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford this month.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with a move for Toney, but it’s believed that he has an asking price of £100m which they aren’t prepared to meet.

And while discussing the move on talkSPORT’s Breakfast Show (10 January) hosts Alan Brazil and Ally McCoist suggested the Toffees forward as a potential alternative for Mikel Arteta’s side.

“So, I was just going to touch on Calvert-Lewin, so he’s got off his red card and rightly so, that was a joke,” Brazil said.

“And I was just thinking if they [Arsenal] can’t get the boy from Brentford [Ivan Toney], if they can’t get Ivan, then would Everton sell Calvert-Lewin? Or are they just worried about his injury problems that he’s got?”

McCoist replied: “No chance. You’ve got to take that into account as well.”

Brazil added: “He’d finish, I think he’d score a lot of goals.”

McCoist concluded: “So do I, but I don’t think there’s any way Everton would sell him. Imagine Everton fans if they sold Calvert-Lewin?”

No chance

Everton are in a relegation battle despite the good form the team has been in this season due to the ten-point deduction handed down by the Premier League.

That means the Toffees simply can’t afford to lose their best players during the January transfer window and there is no doubting that Calvert-Lewin is one of those.

Everton

Arsenal have already been strongly linked with a move for Amadou Onana this month and the club are said to be holding firm on a big valuation, with the Gunners unable to reach it due to their own FFP constraints.

So any move for Calvert-Lewin would also no doubt be completely impossible considering his importance to the team, and the way Sean Dyche has set the team up around his qualities.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if Arsenal were interested in the forward as an alternative target to Toney, but Everton don’t need to do a deal right now and should’t even consider it.

In other Everton news, more talks planned in next hours as player preference emerges for deal says Fabrizio Romano.
