Everton likely to be charged again by Premier League on Monday – Martin Samuel
Everton are likely to be charged again for breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules on Monday 15 January, and could be relegated if they around found guilty, according to Martin Samuel.
The Times journalist reported on 13 January that both Everton and Nottingham Forest could be found guilty of further rule breaches, calling the potential punishment “draconian” if the ten-point deduction has set the tone.
This comes despite the rules surrounding news that the current profit and sustainability rules in the Premier League are set to be scrapped in August in favour of an updated ruling.

The Premier League letting clubs down again
If, as is suggested by Samuel, Everton and Forest are found guilty of further breaches of financial rules when a decision is made on Monday, the result could well be that both sides are relegated as a result of point penalties after they set the tone for their punishments.
To be handed such extreme punishments for breaking rules which may not even exist in seven months is frankly ridiculous, and if both clubs do suffer as a result, there would surely be a case to appeal as Everton are trying with their first punishment.
This news has come amid intensifying scrutiny on the Premier League’s financial rules, with high-flyers Aston Villa and Newcastle by their own admissions unable to spend money in January due to limits on profit and loss rules.

The news from Villa and Newcastle matched with a previously dubious penalty handed to Everton and potential further punishment to both them and Forest, continue to show that the Premier League simply isn’t up to scratch in terms of its rules and systems in place.
In other Everton news, a new Amadou Onana exit update has emerged.
