Sean Dyche breaks Everton silence amid Amadou Onana transfer rumours

Sean Dyche has broken the silence on Amadou Onana’s future at Everton amid interest from Premier League outfit Arsenal.

Despite the rumours linking the 22-year-old Belgian midfielder with a move away from Goodison Park, the Toffees manager has not prepared for a squad without his star despite not dismissing the possibility of departures this January.

Everton could be worried about the threats of FFP, especially after being handed a 10-point deduction for a Profit and Sustainability breach earlier this season, having sold Anthony Gordon last January to Newcastle United in a deal worth £45million, as per BBC Sport.

“We are in a position to do the best we can with the team we have got but we are in the position where if the right deal came along,” Dyche said to Football London on Sunday (14 January).

“But you’ve seen how quiet it is in January and we are certainly not thinking of players going out of the building. He’s been heavily linked before I was here and after. It’s just another story. He’s an Everton player so any decision that we make on players it will be us that decide.”

Life of a Premier League manager

Like any other Premier League manager during a transfer window, Dyche is having to put up with the transfer rumours surrounding some of his key players – Onana, Dominic Calver-Lewin and Jarrad Branthwaite.

And Onana is definitely one of those that the Toffees would suffer without if a deal with Arsenal were to happen this January. Everton’s hopes of Premier League survival could be destroyed.

With Idrissa Gana Gueye away on international duty, Abdoulaye Doucoure recovering from injury and a potential long-term injury suffered by Dwight McNeil, Onana’s impact has never been so appreciated at Goodison Park.

There are no doubts over Onana’s ability, hence further interest from the Spanish giants in Barcelona, as per Mundo Deportivo. And having made 56 appearances in Everton colours since August 2022, the midfielder is almost undroppable.

Of course, it would be difficult to turn down an eye-watering offer for their 22-year-old star midfielder. But Everton need to hold out for as long as possible, with the threat of Luton Town currently breathing down their neck.
