BBC Sport journalist details when Everton and Nottingham Forest Profit and Sustainability rule breach case must be heard by

The cases against Everton and Nottingham Forest for allegedly breaching the Premier League’s financial rules must be heard by 8 April, according to Simon Stone.

The BBC Sport journalist tweeted on Monday (15 January) that there is the “potential for appeal” from the two top-flight clubs after they have been referred to an independent commission for alleged breaches of profit and sustainability rules in their accounts for 2022-23.

If the sides are found to be in breach of those rules, they could be at risk of being handed a fine or be docked points, with the Toffees already receiving a 10-point deduction for a previous charge in November last year – a ruling they have appealed against.

Concerning

This latest update will be hugely concerning for all those associated with Everton as the club could be staring down the barrel of another points deduction.

There was huge uproar following the previous judgement against the club back in November, with many stakeholders viewing the decision as harsh.

The fresh charges have come at just the wrong time for the Toffees as their financial situation appears to be getting worse by the day as 777 Partners looks to complete a takeover at Goodison Park.

If the Blues were to be hit with another points deduction before they even hear back about their appeal to the first ruling, then that would be a massive blow to their hopes of fighting off relegation this season.

It will now be a tense wait to find out where they stand over the next couple of months as these decisions could have a dramatic impact on the future of the club.
