£50m+ Everton exit news emerges with Amadou Onana open to January transfer move to Arsenal

Amadou Onana is open to a January transfer to Arsenal rather than Manchester United, with Everton set to demand £50million for his signature, according to Ben Jacobs.

The former talkSPORT journalist reported on 15 January that, although the Goodison Park club are determined to keep hold of their star, their resolve could be tested and they would expect a bid of at least £50million.

Jacobs also insisted that nothing is advanced, and neither club would be able to meet the asking price in January, with no progress being made at this stage despite the player’s preference.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT [15 January], Jacobs explained: “Everton want to keep hold of Amadou Onana, and if they are to change that stance they would expect £50million or more. Let’s not forget that Everton paid Lille £33million.

“We have seen links with Manchester United and Arsenal, but nothing is advanced and both sides would be unable to proceed in January at that kind of price even if they wanted to.

“Onana is open to Arsenal in particular, but I am not aware of anything progressing at this stage.”

Everton cannot let him leave in January

Regardless of what their asking price will be should either of the interested clubs step forward with a January bid, Everton must ensure they don’t sell Onana this month.

With the threat of a further points deduction looming after a potential second charge for breaches of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, Everton may need all of their best players performing at the top of their game if they hope to avoid relegation this season.

Regardless of a second charge, Sean Dyche’s side sit just one point above the relegation zone after their 0-0 draw with Aston Villa at Goodison Park, while Luton below them have a game in hand which could see them leapfrog the Toffees out of the relegation zone.

Onana will be key to any success Everton have this season, and they must stick to their guns and stand firm to keep the Belgian at Goodison Park regardless of interest from elsewhere and whether he may prefer a move to join Arsenal at The Emirates.
