Ian Wright staggered by ‘unbelievable’ Everton board reveal by Jamie Carragher
Ian Wright was left staggered by an “unbelievable” claim by Jamie Carragher about the Everton board following their most recent FFP charges.
Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast (18 January), Carragher blasted the Toffees board once again after their second charge from the Premier League for breaching profit and sustainability rules.
And after the Liverpool legend shared that Everton didn’t have anyone present at the hearing for their previous charge to defend the club, Wright admitted that it was “staggering” to hear.
“Yeah [this lies with the owners],” he said.
“Certainly from Everton’s point of view, I’m in the city and I’ve got friends and family who are Everton fans. Everton have been totally, for the last 12-18 months, they’ve absolutely slaughtered their own board and rightly so.
“There’s been a lot of stuff going on off the pitch, demonstrations beforehand. If you actually look at Everton Football Club right now, who is actually fighting for them in terms of their own club? There is no-one there.
“They’ve got the mayor of Manchester Andy Burnham, who is a big Everton fan, he’s the one on the front foot fighting against the Premier League because there’s jut a vacuum. There’s nobody there.
“The owner has just gone missing, nobody has heard from him for years. The board, obviously the fans got them out, but a couple of them didn’t even go to the hearing to defend the club. Which I find unbelievable. Unbelievable.”
Mental
Everton fans have been telling anyone who will listen for years that Farhad Moshiri was a rubbish owner and was simply not right for the club.
But because he spent a lot of money on players most people looking from the outside in questioned why fans were against him, but it’s because of things like this.

He’s never been there for the club, he’s never showed an interest in really helping this club to improve and felt that throwing money at the situation would simply be the answer.
Now that everything has come back to bite the club he has looked to leg it and has disappeared while the club wait for solutions.
Wrighty is spot on to be staggered, and fans are spot on to be angry. Carragher hit the nail on the head that there is nobody fighting for this club, so the fans have to keep going and make sure that their voices are heard.
