Kevin Campbell fumes live on Sky Sports at ‘crazy’ Everton charge decision

Kevin Campbell slammed the latest Everton charge for an alleged breach of Profit and Sustainability rules as “crazy” and “madness” live on Sky Sports News.

The Toffees were hit with a 10-point deduction after being found guilty of flouting Premier League relegations, a decision they have appealed against.

But now the situation has become even more complicated after it was confirmed on Monday (15 January) that Everton have been with a fresh charge.

The club said it will “continue to defend its position during the ongoing appeal and, should it be required to do so, at any future commission” (Liverpool Echo).

Former Toffees striker Campbell, speaking live on Sky Sports News (18 January, 10:07am) a day after the Toffees defeated Crystal Palace 1-0 in an FA Cup third-round replay (17 January), was baffled by the latest update.

“It was a much-needed win with what’s still occurring about this crazy new PSR (charge),” he said.

“I just don’t know how they’ve just been charged and now all of a sudden they’re going to get charged again. I don’t understand it myself, so I’m sure smarter people than me are oging to be able to explain it when they can. I’m intrigued to find out.

“Where do all these charges come from? It’s one they have to have a good look at, I don’t even know if it’s legal, how can you get charged twice for something? To me it makes no sense, I need this to be explained to me a lot more than has been explained to me.

“It feels like it will be targeted that’s for sure, that you’ve been reprimanded twice that for me that’s madness. Some of the otehr clubs who haven’t been involved all of a sudden could they get done double? You don’t know, where does it end?

“I just hope all the teams who are involved in this shake up keep their heads down, start winning some football matches, get their legal teams on it which I’m sure they are, because to me it makes no sense.”

Spot on

In already troubled times for Everton, this was a real unncessary punch in the gut for the club, who have clearly taken steps to readdress the balance and cut their cloth accordingly.

The fact they have already been punished and could now face further punishment for a period that covers so much of the same time period just incites fury deep in the pit of the stomach.

Some of the decisions surrounding PSR rules seem to be made up on the fly and that is what particularly rankles. If there were clearly defined punishments and the club was still found in breach then it would be easier to swallow the medicine.

But frankly, right now, things are an absolute farce and Everton are taking the brunt of the ineptitude flying around left, right, and centre. Things need to change and fast because we cannot allow our beautiful game to be dominated by such talking points.
