Everton transfer news: Twist emerges in Sheffield United pursuit of Mason Holgate
Everton defender Mason Holgate is now unlikely to join Sheffield United on a loan in the January transfer window, according to Nick Mashiter.
The Midlands football journalist for PA claims that due to the Toffees’ late demands of a fee in the deal, the move has fallen through.
Holgate, who was recalled from his loan spell at Southampton, even travelled for his medical, and it now remains to be seen if the deal can be brought back on track.
Via Twitter, Mashiter wrote: “Exc: Sheffield United’s loan move for Mason Holgate has fallen through after Everton’s demand for a late fee. Defender had travelled for a medical. Remains to be seen if the deal can be resurrected. Link to follow.”
Shambles
Holgate’s luck just does not seem to be good this season as he had a disastrous loan spell and his second one fell through at the final hurdle.
This also shows carelessness from Everton’s point of view as these things should’ve been discussed before sending him there for a medical.
He obviously will have had his heart set on a move to Sheffield United, who are the Toffees’ relegation rivals this season in the Premier League.

It remains to be seen if the Blades will chalk up the funds the Toffees are looking for in order to make this deal happen.
However, the chances of that happening are unlikely, otherwise negotiations would’ve been ongoing without the move falling through.
It’s evident that Sean Dyche wants the defender to head out on loan in January and they’ve got to find a decent club for him now.
