Everton: Al-Ettifaq want to sign Abdoulaye Doucoure as decision expected on ‘top priority’ in next 48 hours
Ben Jacobs has confirmed that Al-Ettifaq are interested in signing Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure in the January transfer window.
The CBS journalist tweeted on Saturday (20 January) that the “top priority” for the Saudi Pro League club, however, is securing a loan deal for Al-Nassr midfielder Seko Fofana.
He added that a decision is expected on that transfer in the next 24 to 48 hours, but the Middle Eastern side will “look elsewhere” if he doesn’t agree to a transfer, potentially opening the door for the 31-year-old Mali international to exit Goodison Park this month.
Concerning
It will have come as extremely concerning news to the Everton fans that Al-Ettifaq are potentially looking into a deal to sign Doucoure.
The midfielder is an important player within Sean Dyche’s setup and he will be absolutely vital to their hopes of achieving Premier League survival again this season.
But it does sound as though a deal for Fofana could mean that they cool their interest in the Mali international, so the Toffees fans will be hoping that transfer goes through in the next few days.
If it doesn’t, though, then the Saudi club could look to take advantage of the Blues’ difficult financial situation as a reasonable offer could prove hard to turn down.
But they can be confident in the fact that the midfielder recently signed a new deal on Merseyside, suggesting he is more than happy to stay at the club.
