Genoa now make approach to sign Everton defender Ben Godfrey despite what Sean Dyche said
Genoa have now made an approach to sign Everton defender Ben Godfrey in the January transfer window, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Italian newspaper reported on page 20 of its print edition on Friday (26 January) that the the Serie A club, who are owned by the potential Toffees owners 777 Partners, have requested information on the availability of the 26-year-old this month.
It comes after Blues boss Sean Dyche revealed on Thursday (25 January) that there has been no news on a move for the English centre-back, adding that his attitude is “outstanding” despite being “frustrated at his lack of game time this season at Goodison Park.
Asked about the possibility of a departure for Godfrey, Dyche said: “No (news on a move). Ben is going along very well.
“His attitude is outstanding and he’s well thought of in the group. He hasn’t had much game time and is frustrated with that obviously. Frustrated not to play. But he’s pushing himself and the group and is a fantastic professional.”
Anything could happen
There is still almost a week left to go in the January transfer window so there is plenty of time for moves to happen as clubs look to strengthen their squads this month.
There hasn’t been much movement in the Premier League due to the restrictions around FFP, but that won’t stop European clubs from looking to do business.
It appears as though Genoa are now exploring a potenital deal for Godfrey after he’s been limited to just three appearances so far this season.

It’s more than understandable that he’ll want to go and earn some more regular football elsewhere, so the Toffees are unlikely to stand in his way if they receive a decent offer for his services.
That could potentially free up some wages to allow Dyche to go and strenghten in an area where he feels his squad is particularly light as he looks to fight off relegation again this season.
