Everton: Andy Goldstein ridicules Sean Dyche to Manchester United suggestion amid Erik ten Hag doubts

Andy Goldstein rubbished suggestions that Everton manager Sean Dyche could be a good fit as the next boss of Manchester United.

The talkSPORT presenter was reacting to comments made by Ally McCoist earlier on Tuesday (30 January) on the British radio station.

In reply to a United fan asking if Dyche would improve United if Erik ten Hag leaves, McCoist said that he “would take him right now”.

However, Goldstein – himself a Man United supporter – disagreed as he said: “He’s not a Hollywood name.

“They’re not going to go from Erik ten Hag to Sean Dyche. I think Dyche has more chance of managing England than a top-six side.”

When co-host Jason Cundy, a Chelsea fan, pushed the issued, Goldstein replied: “Hold on. Would you take him at Chelsea?

“I wouldn’t for one moment say Man United are worse off than Chelsea.”

Fighting fires

Touting a manager of a club currently in the bottom three of the Premier League with a heavyweight like Manchester United does seem strange.

However, the point both McCoist and Cundy were making is that Dyche is a disciplinarian who knows how to get the most out of players.

United have a talented squad but they continue to underperform, with Marcus Rashford the latest to make headlines for the wrong reasons.

Dyche has showed in his 12 months at Goodison Park that he is able to fight fires, albeit the Toffees are on a poor run of form right now.

As he showed at Burnley, Dyche is capable of massively outperforming expectations. Hopefully the same will be true at Everton.

The United job may be out of Dyche’s reach, but achieving success with Everton would be even more special.
