Everton transfer update: Last-gasp January arrival possible at Goodison Park – Alan Myers

Everton may still be able to bring one new signing in at Goodison Park before the transfer deadline, according to Alan Myers.

The Sky Sports journalist shared his Toffees transfer prediction via Twitter on 31 January to suggest any arrival wouldn’t be plural and was still unlikely, while also not ruling out departures.

Sean Dyche had refused to be drawn on the state of the final 48 hours in the window following the goalless draw at Fulham on 30 January, while heavily implying that there was no money to spend so deals were unlikely.

But asked about news on business before the deadline Myers replied: “I would guess one in at the very most, outgoings I’m not so sure to be fair.”

Door ajar

The unfortunate reality at Goodison Park currently is that various factors are conspiring to give the club minimal scope to even investigate deals.

Financial concerns off the pitch amid a takeover process that continues to drag on in perpetuity and two Premier League referrals on profit and sustainability grounds apparently mean there isn’t a budget for permanent deals, barring a sizeable fee coming in.

And with two loans already in place there is no space to add any others without Jack Harrison or Arnaut Danjuma leaving the club.

The latter has been lined up for a Lyon switch through much of the window, but even in pursuits that Everton appear to have engaged in they haven’t had any luck so there is no benefit in letting the Dutchman leave.

Hannibal Mejbri had already chosen a move to Sevilla at the point that the Toffees tried to hijack his exit from Manchester United so they were always at a disadvantage, and Real Betis have a permanent sale of Luiz Henrique available so a loan offer from Merseyside was brushed off.

Ben Godfrey has emerged as the name closest to a departure before the deadline, although whether his rare start at Fulham has thrown a spanner in the works of that remains to be seen between now and 11pm on 1 February.

In other Everton news, an update on the futures of a pair of “key assets” who missed the Fulham draw has emerged.
