Alan Myers: Everton look at late Deadline-Day midfielder deal in new transfer update
Everton have looked at a potential deal to sign a new midfielder at Goodison Park before the transfer deadline, but the deal was “clearly” not possible, according to Alan Myers.
The Sky Sports journalist replied to a fan on X who had asked about the rumours of advances being made towards a new midfielder, to which he clarified a deal was explored but nothing came of it.
It has been an extremely quiet January window at Goodison Park for the second year in a row, with the club’s financial position restricting the deals on the table.
A difficult end to the season
Nobody expected a busy deadline day at Everton, but a complete absence of rumours as the club have again been unable to do a deal will be an extra frustration to the fans.
This has come after last January when Everton were the only club in the Premier League not to do a single deal, and while transfers have slowed down this year because of financial issues, the club are once again at the bottom of the table when it comes to transfer deals.
After Luton’s emphatic 4-0 win against Brighton, while Sean Dyche’s side limped to a 0-0 draw with Fulham, the Toffees have now been dragged into the relegation zone, with the Hatters above them and also with a game in hand.
New signings would have been ideal this month to strengthen their position and give a boost to their fight for survival, but with nothing looking likely before the 11pm deadline, it looks like another quiet month will end in further disappointment.
