Everton: Stuart Pearce gushes over Ashley Young live on TalkSPORT v Tottenham
Stuart Pearce was left wowed by Everton defender Ashley Young for his “quality” crosses in the first half of their Premier League clash against Tottenham.
The Toffees found themselves back in the drop zone following a goalless draw with Fulham in midweek and were aiming to end a run of five games without a Premier League victory.
Ange Postecoglou’s men took the lead inside four minutes when former Toffee Richarlison scored from a fantastic volley after a cross from Destiny Udogie but the Toffees equalised 15 minutes from half-time when Dominic Calvert-Lewin thought he nodded in his 51st goal for the club from a corner but his header came off Jack Harrison.
The Brazilian scored just before the interval again from a brilliant 20-yard curler with Jordan Pickford well beaten but Everton rescued a point with a last-gasp goal from Jarrad Branthwaite.
Pearce speaking live on talkSPORT radio’s coverage of the game at Goodison Park (3 February, 12:45 pm) was wowed by Young’s quality deliveries.
He said: “Young is putting some quality crosses in but none of the Everton players are getting anywhere near it. Some lovely deliveries.”
Pearce was impressed by the senior Toffees man again before half-time (1:09 pm): “My word, Ashley Young has had a super 40 minutes. Great player.”
The reincarnation of Ashley Young at Everton
While Richarlison left the whole of Goodison Park stunned with some sublime finishing on Saturday afternoon, one Everton player has certainly been in the thick of the action despite the scoreline and that is Young.
Pearce is absolutely right, the former England international was tremendous for Everton providing a crucial outlet on the right-hand side with some telling deliveries.
Dyche decided to deploy Young in a right-wing role and it seems the former Manchester United and Aston Villa man is thriving, rolling back the years with some stunning deliveries.
How none of the Everton attackers could get near them was incredibly baffling as they were near-perfect to take advantage of.

The Toffees are known for their goals from crosses this season and that’s always possible when you have players like Young around but Dyche will be massively disappointed his players aren’t making the most of them.
It hasn’t been the best campaign for Young with some disappointing individual displays, especially the sending-off against Liverpool in the Merseyside derby but the Young being showcased against Tottenham is certainly the one Everton fans want to see.
Are we experiencing a reincarnation by the Everton veteran?
