Ally McCoist rages at Everton ace Ben Godfrey after what he did v Tottenham
Ally McCoist was absolutely furious with Ben Godfrey after he dived during the 2-2 draw between Everton and Totteham at Goodison Park.
The Toffees came from behind twice after two Richarlison goals as Jack Harrison and Jarrad Branthwaite earned a point for Sean Dyche’s side in a tough game.
But during the second half Godfrey infuriated TNT Sports commentator McCoist (3 February, 13:57) when he fell to the floor in a heap after a challenge from Richarlison. But replays showed there was no contact, and McCoist labelled it “embarrassing”.
“He doesn’t touch him,” he said. “That’s embarrassing, he’s nowhere near him.”
Not what Everton is about
Godfrey has been putting in some solid performances in recent games while out of position at right-back, and he deserves credit for it. It arguably is the reason the club rejected bids for him in the January window.
Toffees fans were furious during the game with Spurs’ conduct with players dropping like flies constantly and trying to kill time, which ultimately came back to bite them in the seventh minute of injury time with Branthwaite’s equaliser.
But Everton won’t want to see their own players stoop to that level and start play-acting and diving on the pitch, even if it does seem to help teams get decisions with the officials.

Everyone saw it with Richarlison and Anthony Gordon during their time at the club, and they were told to cut that out of their game at different periods because nobody wants to see it.
McCoist is spot on. It’s embarrassing and Godfrey should be ashamed that he did it. Hopefully it was a one-off out of frustration during this game rather than something creeping into his game, and hopefully he gets the message and doesn’t do it again.
