Everton v Manchester City: Sean Dyche to drop Ben Godfrey after Tottenham display

Everton defender Ben Godfrey may be axed from the playing eleven v Manchester City after his display against Tottenham Hotspur.

The Englishman started the game at right-back and had to be withdrawn in the 75th minute at Goodison Park on 3 February.

The Toffees earned a respectable 2-2 draw courtesy of a late goal from Jarrad Branthwaite which saw Tim Sherwood calling him the best, despite the xG showing that they deserved to win the game in what was an impressive performance from Sean Dyche’s side.

Ashley Young to return at right-back?

Godfrey’s stats against Tottenham were underwhelming and it’s evident that even if he’s fit, Dyche will want more from his right-back.

According to Sofascore, he completed just 12 out of 23 passes with a dismal passing accuracy of 53 per cent.

He failed to complete a single cross all game – which shows a lack of attacking prowess from a full-back.

He was even off the mark with his long passes, completing just two from six attempts and he even lost 50 per cent of his duels.

Losing possession 18 times in the game is not something that would’ve impressed Dyche and he could revert to playing Ashley Young at right-back v Manchester City on 10 February.

The 38-year-old started on the right wing against Spurs but he could return to full-back or Seamus Coleman may also be given a start.

In other Everton news, the Toffees’ transfer deal to sign an in-form player in January would have included a £7m option to buy.
