Everton: Injury Expert shares Ben Godfrey update ahead of clash v Manchester City
Everton defender Ben Godfrey is an early doubt for Saturday’s Premier League against Manchester City at The Etihad, according to Ben Dinnery.
The Injury Expert shared on his Premier Injuries website (8 February) that Godfrey is currently being assessed at Goodison Park ahead of the clash against the Premier League champions with his fitness status currently at 75 per cent.
Godfrey was withdrawn late in the second half against Tottenham in the 2-2 draw on Saturday (3 February) with Sean Dyche sharing that he suffered a tightened calf and is now a fresh doubt against Pep Guardiola’s men.
There are also doubts around the availability of Amadou Onana and Abdoulaye Docoure for the Saturday lunchtime game with both players missing their last two games.
Onana underwent a late fitness test ahead of the clash with Tottenham but wasn’t deemed fit enough to feature, while Doucoure has been labelled a “longer-term” absence by Dyche.
Dyche facing the impossible Everton job against Manchester City
The Toffees may well be without a win in six games but the fight they showed to claw themselves back against an impressive Spurs team was very encouraging.
It is the type of determination that has been the hallmark of Dyche’s tenure at Goodison Park and if this Everton team can carry on that dogged, never-say-die attitude between now and the end of the season, there’s no reason why they can’t escape the drop in dramatic fashion again.
However, the injury issues at Goodison Park continue with Godfrey now potentially joining Onana and Doucoure on the treatment table for Saturday’s game.
The Everton defender was impressive against Spurs putting in some crucial last-ditch challenges at pivotal moments in the game that on another day, could well have seen Dyche’s men suffer another defeat.

Despite his limited minutes this season and several exit links in recent weeks, Godfrey still remains a vital tool for Dyche and Everton for the remainder of the season and he’d be an unexpected miss if he were deemed not fit enough to feature at all against Manchester City.
To have Onana, Doucoure and Godfrey out at the Etihad could be damaging.
