TNT commentator wowed by what Everton star James Tarkowski did v Manchester City
Adam Summerton was stunned by Everton duo James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite against Manchester City as he shared their impressive stats for the season so far live on TNT Sports.
The commentator gushed over Tarkowski especially, who he highlighted has the fifth-highest interceptions per game and second-highest blocks per game in the league so far this season.
Both centre-backs were highlighted for their continued impressive displays this season, and against Manchester City, with the partnership growing stronger every game.
Commentating live for TNT Sports [10 February, 13:41], Summerton gushed: “It’s amazing how often the two centre-halves in particular, Branthwaite and Tarkowski, get in place to make interceptions.
“I was looking this up, Tarkowski is fifth in the Premier League for average interceptions per game and second for blocks per game. Branthwaite is fourth for average interceptions in the Premier League this season. We’ve seen a lot of that today.”
James Tarkowski shines for Everton again
While Branthwaite has been the standout player for Sean Dyche’s side so far this season, having emerged as a real key player for Everton, Tarkowski’s influence and presence alongside him at the back cannot be overstated.
As impressive as the 21-year-old has been, having a stalwart like Tarkowski alongside him has been crucial to his development and improvement as he can pick things up from his partner’s experience and know-how in the Premier League.

Both players are, of course, also helped by the style of football they play, with Dyche focusing on that strength and tightness in defence, but without their performances so far this season Everton may be in even more of a tricky situation than they find themselves in.
Tarkowski has started all 24 games for Everton so far this season including today’s defeat at The Etihad, proving his reliability and how much trust Dyche places in him to marshall that back line.
