Everton takeover concerns may continue to build as new 777 protest image emerges

Concerns could ramp up yet again at Goodison Park after a new anti-777 Partners protest was held by fans of Standard Liege amid their ongoing Everton takeover bid.

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri shared via his X account on 10 February that anti-777 claims had been made, attaching an image of a banner which read: “No money, no direction, 777, react or get out.”

The banner had been displayed in the stands during the game between Standard Liege and Oud-Heverlee Leuven which the home side won 1-0, although they remain tenth in the league, just four points away from the relegation zone.

Everton fans’ takeover concerns rise yet again

This protest is just one of several anti-777 calls made by fans of Standard Liege, who have seen their club plummet from being one of the best in the country to battling against relegation as we approach the latter stages of the season.

Premier League checks are still ongoing about the takeover and whether it will be approved, having lasted significantly longer than anybody would have expected, with initial hopes that it would have been concluded before the start of 2024.

Now over a month into the year, we are still yet to hear any update on the progress, and the longer it drags on, the more concerns will arise both in the eyes of the fans and those conducting the relevant checks.

The long line of issues surrounding the potential ownership of Josh Wander and 777 Partners continues to grow by the day, with more concerns arising around their suitability to own Everton Football Club, based on several controversies.

The group’s involvement with Standard Liege in Belgium, Red Star in France, Genoa in Italy and Hertha Berlin in Germany – many of whom have seen fan protests – has come under further scrutiny in recent days after a speech was made directly to the UEFA president about the issue of multi-club ownership.
