Premier League respond to BBC journalist question about Everton 777 Partners takeover

The Premier League have told BBC Sport that they won’t be commenting on the Everton takeover process as the wait for approval for 777 Partners goes on.

The Miami-based investment firm agreed a deal with Farhad Moshiri to buy his stake in the Goodison Park club back in September but are still awaiting approval from the Premier League for it to be formalised.

The Toffees currently owe 777 £160m after taking loans for the running costs of the club during that period, but the Premier League are refusing to provide any information on the current standing of the takeover according to BBC journalist Giulia Bould.

“I have asked this question today,” she wrote on her personal Twitter account (13 February), responding to a fan asking for more media attention.

“I was told no details could be given out.”

The Premier League are causing their own issues

Nobody is asking for anything dramatic or legally binding from the Premier League, but Everton fans want to know – and have the right to know – what is happening with their football club.

After seeing the team docked 10 points because of decisions that the owners and directors stupidly made over recent years, it’s clear that change needs to happen and it needs to happen soon.

But there are fair questions being raised about whether 777 Partners are the right people to bring that change, with several Everton fans also asking those questions.

But while the Premier League must do their checks, there is no reason that it should be taking this long to get answers they need and if it is then that should tell you something itself.

The fact that Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s takeover of Manchester United has already received approval despite being announced months after the 777/Moshiri deal tells you something isn’t right and the fans deserve to know.

The Premier League are just making everything more difficult for themselves and for those associated when there is no need, and it’s this lack of transparency which has got people worrying.
