Crystal Palace in fresh talks to hire Oliver Glasner ahead of Everton showdown at Goodison

Crystal Palace have been in a downward spiral this season and looked like a brilliant chance to secure three points for Everton on Monday 19 February.

With four losses in their last five matches in all competitions, the pressure has been on for Roy Hodgson at Selhurst Park. The Toffees are also in a sticky position, especially considering their 10-point deduction in the Premier League.

In the relegation zone, and one point behind Luton Town, Everton are without a league victory since a 2-0 result against Burnley in December, losing four and drawing three since then.

A Monday night fixture against Crystal Palace seemed the perfect opportunity for Sean Dyche to get his side back onto winning terms, having won two of the last three meetings in all competitions.

However, those chances may have dipped for Everton after news emerged of The Eagles’ fresh talks with Oliver Glasner to replace the current manager ahead of the tie, as per Fabrizio Romano.

Crystal Palace handed fighting chance ahead of Everton clash

Roy Hodgson is a legend of the sport. His decades in football have experienced the highest highs and lowest lows, but the former England manager is set for another low, with an inevitable sacking on the horizon.

Considering Glasner’s success in the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt, leading the latter to the Europa League title in 2021/22, Palace have been handed a lifeline in the Premier League, and at the wrong time for Everton.

Goodison Park has been desperate for a win in recent weeks, and despite ongoing positivity around the club, Dyche needs a win as soon as possible before Everton slip further into the relegation zone.

With Luton now finding their feet in the division, and Sheffield United’s surprise win against them, Everton must capitalise on the easier fixtures, such as Palace, before it is too late.

Upcoming away fixtures against Brighton and Manchester United are unlikely to yield a result, but Everon stand a good chance of claiming at least a point in any matches at Goodison Park, mainly due to the incredible atmosphere on game days.
