Everton: Jamie Carragher lauds Jarrad Branthwaite as Sky Sports footage emerges

Former Liverpool captain Jamie Carragher has lauded Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite for his displays against Manchester City striker Erling Haaland.

Despite making an error that got highlighted in the 2-0 defeat earlier in February, Carragher believes that he dealt well with the City attackers throughout the game.

Sky Sports shared footage of his defending throughout the game which the pundit then shared on Twitter.

He said: “Branthwaite has been outstanding. I think this lad is pretty special. He’s a great part of, in my eyes, why Everton have a great chance of staying up.

“He had a game last week against the best striker in world football and a lot was made of the mistake he made.

“Look how he handles this situation, doesn’t play a silly challenge in. Look how cool and calm and composed he is.

“Gives the ball away, clears it, look he’s saying ‘Sorry’, it’s not normal.

“But what I love is here, he doesn’t do too much. A lot of defenders make silly challenges in the box and give a penalty away.”

Branthwaite grown from strength to strength for Everton under Sean Dyche

Branthwaite’s importance to Everton lies in his remarkable maturity and composure on the pitch, despite his young age of 21, and he’s already linked with moves to title-chasing teams.

The Englishman has shown exceptional resilience and growth under Sean Dyche, consistently delivering solid defensive performances.

His ability to bounce back from mistakes, such as the error highlighted in the defeat against Manchester City, demonstrates his mental strength and determination to improve.

Branthwaite’s calmness under pressure and his decision-making prowess, as highlighted by Carragher, make him a valuable asset to Everton’s defence and he deserves to be included in the England EUROs squad.

In a league as demanding as the Premier League, having a young defender who can handle the challenges posed by top-class strikers like Haaland speaks volumes about Branthwaite’s potential and character.

As the Toffees fight to secure their Premier League status, Branthwaite’s reliability and growing influence at the back provide a solid foundation for the team’s defensive stability and future success.

In other Everton news, Chris Sutton has savaged a Toffees player and told him to shut up after a recent controversy.
