Everton: talkSPORT pundits rave over ‘thunderous’ Jarrad Branthwaite moment v Brighton

Natalie Sawyer and Tony Cascarino were left amazed by Jarrad Branthwaite as the Everton defender netted during a 1-1 draw with Brighton on Saturday (24 February).

The 21-year-old is gaining interest from all over the world, with several European giants sniffing around the Toffees defender, and his goal will only increase his price tag.

Though many defender goals are associated with headers, Branthwaite moved away from the status quo as he curled home a beautiful effort to open the scoring.

Speaking live via talkSPORT on Sunday (25 February, 6:30am), Sawyer said: “It was a striker’s finish if ever there was one. It comes from a Jordan Pickford free-kick, which isn’t dealt with by Brighton.

“It falls to Branthwaite, who has just a moment to set himself up for, what turns out to be, a thunderous strike. A striker would be absolutely chuffed by a goal like that.”

Tony Cascarino added: “The defenders union will be all over this, saying ‘Yes, we can finish’. Normally they blast it over, but it was a great finish.”

Jarrad Branthwaite adds millions to Everton price tag

Dubbed as an £80million player by Simon Jordan, Branthwaite will have only added money onto his current price tag at Goodison Park with his latest display.

The defender scored his second goal of the season, sweeping home an incredible effort, leaving Bart Verbruggen with absolutely no chance.

Chelsea, Arsenal and Real Madrid have already made their intentions with the centre-back known, staking an interest in him ahead of the summer transfer window.

Despite the incredible goal, which saw the Toffees take the lead against a 10-man Brighton side, Lewis Dunk headed home deep into injury time to salvage a draw and take two potentially precious points away from Everton.

Sean Dyche will be hopeful of Everton signing Jake O’Brien

Sean Dyche will be extremely disappointed not to claim all three points against Roberto De Zerbi’s 10 men and should see it as two points dropped rather than one point gained.

Due to their 10-point deduction, the Toffees are just one point above the relegation zone and have played one game more than Luton Town, who occupy 18th in the standings.

In other Everton news, Jim White has mocked Simon Jordan as a fresh twist has emerged in the financial controversy and points deduction saga.
