Everton: Michael Owen thrilled after news he heard emerging from Goodison Park
Former Liverpool and Manchester United striker Michael Owen was thrilled with what he heard about Everton in recent weeks.
Owen claims that he thought the Toffees would be handed back a couple of points but for them to receive four is incredible.
He admits that this bad news for the other relegation candidates, especially Brentford, who played West Ham on 26 February.
Speaking on Premier League Productions, Owen said (26 February, 7:33pm): “Absolutely huge. Four points is a nice little boost for them. We were hearing that they would get a couple of points. Kick in the teeth for teams around them, especially Brentford.”
The calm before the storm for Everton?
The reduction of the 10-point deduction to six points is undoubtedly good news for the club, as it alleviates some of the immediate pressure of relegation.
It moves them up to 15th in the table, providing a buffer of five points above the bottom three.
However, it’s not ideal in the broader context as the Toffees still face uncertainty regarding another possible points deduction due to a second charge for breaching Profitability and Sustainability Rules.
If a precedent has been set with a six-point penalty for the first breach, a similar penalty could follow for the second charge, potentially plunging them back into a precarious position in the relegation battle.
Additionally, the ongoing investigation and legal proceedings reflect negatively on the club’s financial management and stability, which could have long-term repercussions beyond just the points deduction.

So, while the reduction offers short-term relief, there potentially are still challenges and uncertainties moving forward and they have the takeover to navigate as well.
