Simon Jordan hits out at ‘Ludicrous’ Everton appeal verdict as details emerge
Simon Jordan has hit out at the “ludicrous” appeal process as the 10-point deduction awarded to Everton was reduced to six by an independent panel.
The Premier League handed the Toffees a 10-point deduction back in November after the club were charged with a Profit and Sustainability breach.
After weeks of waiting for the result, and multiple reported deadlines missed, fans finally discovered the result of their appeal, with Everton moving up to 15th in the Premier League.
Speaking live via talkSPORT on Tuesday (27 February, 10:07am), Jordan said: “The new Queen’s Counsel presented nine arguments and were defeated on seven of them, and two of them came up with an outcome.
“One of them is relatively ridiculous. If you think that the richest league in the world needs to turn to the poor, sick man of football, which is the Football League, and get some steer from them about how points should be deducted from their team, is rather ludicrous.
“Then there is the subjectivity of whether someone is being entirely honest with you. Their argument was that Everton were ‘less than frank’, to coin their expression, about the redistribution of funds towards interest payments or the stadium cost implications.
“That is very subjective because someone might think you’re being entirely upfront and another might think you’re less than frank. I think the process works because if you don’t have an appeal process, you don’t get the ability to overturn.
“In most situations, when you go to appeal, you find that there is a slightly different outcome or exoneration. You couldn’t possibly exonerate Everton because they were guilty as charged, and that is what they have done.”
Has the correct decision been reached at Everton?
After weeks of patiently waiting, a huge weight has been lifted off Everton players, staff and fans alike, with a dark cloud moving away from Goodison Park.
Though it took a while, it seems that the appeal process has done its job and the Toffees have been awarded a much fairer punishment for the Profit and Sustainability breach.
With the addition of points taking immediate effect, Everton have been bumped straight up to 15th place in the Premier League, leapfrogging Brentford and Nottingham Forest, which will hopefully help Sean Dyche’s men to play with more freedom.

The Toffees have been without a league win since a 2-0 result against Burnley in December, winning just one game in that period – an FA Cup victory against Crystal Palace. This had seen the threat of relegation rise at Goodison Park, causing more and more unneeded stress.
Although Everton are still very much at risk of relegation, with just 25 points so far, they can begin to look ahead of them rather than keeping tabs on the teams snapping at their heels below.
