Everton: Chris Sutton predicts result v West Ham in new points deduction verdict

Chris Sutton has backed Everton to take all three points from their Premier League clash with West Ham on 2 March following the reduction in their points deduction.

The former Chelsea striker insisted that Sean Dyche’s team will be delighted to have received points back, and could follow it by ending their long wait for a victory.

After the 1-1 draw with Brighton last time out, Sutton has predicted the Toffees will find a way to win at last and has claimed they are no longer in danger of relegation.

Writing in his BBC Sport Premier League Predictions column, Sutton shared: “Everton must be absolutely delighted to get back four of the 10 points that they had deducted, and that sets them up nicely for this game.

“If they can follow that by ending their long wait for a league win, which stretches back nine games to 16 December, it would be huge for them.

“They should have beaten 10-man Brighton last week, and would have done if not for Lewis Dunk’s stoppage-time leveller – but they showed enough in that game to make me think they will be out of trouble soon.

“Without the points deduction, we wouldn’t have been talking about them being in danger of the drop. Now it has been reduced, they are perfectly fine.

“I keep backing Everton at home, and getting it wrong, but I fancy them here. Their former boss David Moyes has won at Goodison with West Ham once before, in 2021, but I have a feeling he will leave empty-handed this time.”

Dyche’s side haven’t taken all three points from a game since their win against Burnley on 16 December, approaching three months ago, and will be desperate to find a way to win at Goodison Park.

The players and the crowd will be buoyed by the recent points deduction verdict which saw them climb out of the relegation zone into 15th, above Luton, Brentford and Nottingham Forest, which will serve as a collective weight off their shoulders.

Sutton’s claims that the Toffees will now avoid relegation come before the outcome of the second investigation into financial breaches, which Simon Jordan claimed could carry an even harsher penalty than the previous points deduction.

Everton boss Sean Dyche
Sean Dyche’s Everton side have faced plenty of challenges both on and off the pitch this season.

It has been a turbulent season at Goodison Park with constant rumours surrounding their possible takeover and financial breaches, but taking all three points against West Ham will be a step towards further calm at Everton.
