Everton: Leon Osman wowed by ‘absolutely fantastic’ James Garner moment v West Ham United

Leon Osman was stunned by what James Garner did in the build-up to the Everton goal against West Ham on Saturday (2 March).

Speaking on co-commentary for American TV channel Peacock on Saturday, the pundit said it was an “absolutely fantastic” cross from the 22-year-old to pick out Beto before he put the Toffees ahead.

He added that the ball in was begging for the Portuguese forward to find the back of the net, but it wasn’t enough for the Blues to claim a result as two late goals secured the Hammers a 3-1 victory at Goodison Park.

“Beto is the man who gets on the scoresheet, but this is all about the delivery,” said Osman. “Talk about strikers wanting the ball early, talk about Everton being at their best when they play at speed and play quickly.

“They do that, getting the ball to Garner wide and it is an absolutely fantastic ball, it’s begging to be put into the back of the goal. I’m not sure what part of his body he used, I’m not sure it was his head from Beto.”

Everton threw it away against West Ham

It was a strong first hour of the game from Everton as they deservedly took the lead through Beto shortly after half-time following Garner’s superb ball into the box.

The lead should have really been more for the Toffees by that point after Alphonse Areola made a number of excellent saves for West Ham, including to deny Beto from the penalty spot.

But they were punished by the Hammers not long after going ahead as Kurt Zouma levelled up the scoreline before Tomas Soucek and Edson Alvarez both scored in injury time.

Sean Dyche is facing new pressure at Everton

Although the Blues find themselves a few points above the relegation zone following their successful appeal to the 10-point deduction, they need to be winning their home games.

Sean Dyche will no doubt be extremely frustrated with how his team fell apart in the latter stages of the game after missing several chances earlier on at Goodison.
