Everton fans railing against their own club amid ‘legal shenanigans’ as Premier League saga rumbles on

Andy Dunn believes that by hitting out against the Premier League Everton supporters are also hitting out against their “own club” as the “legal shenanigans” continue to rumble on.

Everton were recently handed back four points after the outcome of their appeal against a breach of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules saw their 10-point deduction reduced to a six-point deduction.

Supporters at Goodison Park continue to voice their frustrations with the Premier League, but Dunn believes that this in turn means those same supporters are protesting against their “own club” as well.

Writing in the Sunday Mirror (3 March, page 61), Dunn said, “It is worth bearing one thing in mind amid all of these financial and legal shenanigans – when fans of top-flight clubs rail against the Premier League, they are railing against their own club.

“The Premier League remains a private members’ club that makes up its own rules.

“You might not agree with them, but it was the clubs that came up with the regulations.”

Everton must begin to focus on their football amid a Premier League relegation battle

Plenty of Everton supporters will be sick and tired of hearing about the club’s battle with the Premier League.

For Sean Dyche, he too will be fed up with all the talk off the pitch as he tries to help the club on it. The Toffees and their supporters can fight against the Premier League all they want, but they should save some of that fight for their on-field performances.

Whether or not the Premier League deduct more or less points is largely out of their hands, what is not out of their hands is how many wins they pick up, and the cushion they build between themselves and the bottom three.

Everton are five points clear of 18th, and their Premier League status is in their hands as long as they can beat the teams around them.

Dyche would have been furious as his side conceded twice late on to lose 3-1 against West Ham at Goodison Park on Saturday 2 March, and he must now ensure that all the talk off the pitch does not act as a distraction to his players during the run-in.
