Premier League accused of Everton robbery as latest twist in Goodison ‘fiasco’ emerges

The Sunday People columnist Neil Moxley believes the Premier League need to deal with point deductions better amid the current Everton fiasco.

Sean Dyche’s side had 10 points taken off them earlier this season before they were given four back earlier this week.

Other top-flight clubs like Nottingham Forest and Manchester City are also under scrutiny at the moment.

Moxley wrote in the print edition of the Sunday Mirror (page 53, 3 March): “If the Premier League want to prove they don’t need government intervention to run top-flight football, they’re going to have to do better than they have with this Everton fiasco. Robbing the club of 10 points – or should that be six – not to mention the ongoing and outstanding charges against Nottingham Forest and the eternal squabble with Manchester City simply isn’t a good look.

“If there were independent auditors in place at each of these clubs none of these situations would have arisen. They would have been flagged up, Then, they would have been either stopped at source or they would have carried on and the warnings and punishments that followed would have been incontestable. Far better that than this dog’s breakfast.”

Everton situation should be dealt with better

The Premier League need to act quicker and more decisively with Everton and other clubs who have breached the rules. The whole process seems to take too much time.

They are dealing with people’s jobs and the uncertainty of the situation doesn’t help anybody, especially those clubs who are battling relegation against the Toffees.

It will be interesting to see how they deal with Nottingham Forest and Manchester City further down the line and whether they will be punished more or less than the Toffees. The latter seem to have got away with things more than most over recent years.

Dyche’s men have benefitted from their points deduction being reduced and that has boosted their hopes of staying up this term. They are now five points above the drop zone with 11 games left of the season to play.

However, they are in poor form though and are winless in their last six outings after losing 3-1 at home to West Ham last time out.
