Everton want to sign ‘Outstanding’ Hull City defender Jacob Greaves

Everton want to sign Hull City defender Jacob Greaves to bolster their defensive options for next season, according to The Mirror.

Writing on their website (5 March), the news outlet report that the 23-year-old centre-back has been identified as a target for the summer transfer window.

The Toffees have been monitoring the Tigers vice-captain regularly this season, and could face competition from the likes West Ham and Crystal Palace for his signature after they previously showed an interest in signing him.

Everton planning for the future?

The upcoming summer transfer window is likely to be one of the biggest and most important in the club’s history.

The financial situation means that the club are likely going to be forced to sell at least one key player with interest in both Jarrad Branthwaite and Amadou Onana seemingly rife, while they are still awaiting clarification on the proposed takeover by 777 Partners.

But whether those players leave or not, it’s clear that the club must start shopping in a new market for players for a while with the new stadium also being paid off.

That means looking at the Championship or smaller top divisions across the world to strengthen the squad with cheaper deals and lesser known players, rather than spending big on players who may have a bigger profile.

Greaves fits that criteria with over 200 first-team appearances to his name despite being just 23-years-old and was described as “outstanding” for his performances in the 2022/23 campaign.

And with his style fitting what Sean Dyche likes in a defender, so this is certainly one to watch going forward.
