Ex-Everton scout speculates ‘big breath’ taken by Man City and Chelsea after appeal verdict
Manchester City and Chelsea will be relieved following the Premier League’s decision to reduce the points deduction handed to Everton.
That is according to former Goodison Park scout Bryan King, with the Toffees having their 10-point punishment cut to six points.
The Merseyside outfit moved from 17th to 15th place in the Premier League table following the decision, having appealed their initial charge.
Speaking to Goodison News, King said: “I would think there was a big breath taking by both clubs. But what are the charges? What are the written charges? We’ve seen Manchester City with 115 charges, for what?
“The same with Chelsea. We must look at Chelsea, a club that are misspending money and signing players who originally were not good enough.
“The fact with Manchester City is that whatever they’ve done, they have been in a position financially to sign good players, and that’s what they’ve done.
“So it’s going to be very interesting to see exactly what charges are proven and what are not. Whoever was spending the money at Chelsea, they had no idea what they were buying.”
Is the Everton scenario good news for Manchester City and Chelsea?
Everton were outraged at their punishment earlier this season, which forced them to drop way down the Premier League standings.
A superb run helped them immediately climb the rinks, but a disastrous run since then means they are now back in a tense relegation fight.

Moving up to 15th place was a big boost, but the 3-1 loss against West Ham on Saturday (2 March), along with other results, means they have moved down to 16th.
In other Everton news, the Toffees are likely to be docked more points as a “serious punishment” verdict is shared by a finance expert.
