Everton to demand £80m to sell Jarrad Branthwaite in summer transfer window
Everton will demand at least £80m from any club that want to sign Jarrad Branthwaite in the summer transfer window, according to TEAMtalk.
Writing on their website (5 March), the news outlet report that the central defender is a key target for Manchester United among other top European clubs for the summer.
But with Everton facing financial issues, it’s believed they will be forced to sell at least one key player in the upcoming window, with the club adamant they will get top dollar for their best players.
“Sources close to Everton suggest that they may need to part ways with at least one star player this summer as they continue to grapple with financial problems,” they wrote.
“Sean Dyche’s side certainly won’t let Branthwaite leave on the cheap, however, and have slapped an £80million price tag on his head.”
Is Jarrad Branthwaite worth £80m?
Branthwaite is undoubtedly one of the biggest assets that Everton have in terms of their playing staff, and after he penned a new contract earlier this season they are in full control of negotiations.
There has been talk of a potential £80m fee for Amadou Onana should he leave the club in the summer too, and it seems that may be the magic number that the club need in order to feel safe financially.
Whether it’s Branthwaite or Onana, both players will be commanding top fees because of their age and performances at Goodison Park this season.
In the grand scheme of things Branthwaite is probably not worth £80m, as he isn’t among the best defenders in the world today.
But that’s the type of money you have to pay these days for someone with the potential to one day get there, and he’s worth every penny of that and probably even more to Everton’s Premier League status. So teams will need to pay it or go away.
