Everton: Journalist shares what Jordan Pickford and Branthwaite did with young fan at Finch Farm
Jordan Pickford and Jarrad Branthwaite both collaborated to make the day of a young Everton fan at Finch Farm on Thursday, according to Joe Thomas.
Writing on his personal Twitter account (7 March), the Liverpool Echo journalist was present at the club’s training ground for Sean Dyche’s pre-game press conference on Thursday afternoon.
And upon leaving the ground he shared that he spotted a young fan waiting outside the gates, who revealed that the first-team stars and youngster Mackenzie Hunt made a “lovely gesture” to make his day.
“Some nice moments leaving Finch Farm this afternoon,” he wrote.
“Young lad in his Everton kit waiting outside the gates – said Jordan Pickford stopped for him; I then saw Jarrad Branthwaite stop and call him over before Mackenzie Hunt followed and gave him a match shirt. Lovely gesture.”
Everton is the people’s club
There is a reason why the Toffees are often regarded as the people’s club on Merseyside, and it’s because of gestures like this.
It’s something so small and insignificant to the day of players like Pickford and Branthwaite but that child will remember that moment for the rest of his life, and it will undoubtedly mean he has a connection with the club forever too.
These are the people the club must think about, but also why fans have been so angry at the Premier League for the points deduction that punished them when they did nothing wrong.
It’s also why the Premier League really need to get the decision regarding 777 Partners’ prospective takeover right, because the club means far too much to the wider community to be allowed to just get swallowed up.
These moments are magical and it’s good to see senior players leading by example with academy talents following too as it’s the perfect recipe for unison.
