Everton ex-employee speaks out about Burnley legal speculation against Premier League
Burnley do not have a very good chance of successfully suing the Premier League, according to former Everton scout Bryan King.
The verdict comes after the Daily Mail reported on Wednesday (6 March) that the Clarets are taking legal advice over a lawsuit after the Toffees had their points deduction reduced.
The newspaper noted that Burnley are unhappy that the Premier League did not enforce the spending rules in real time, with the Clarets being relegated in the 2021/22 season, with the Toffees staying up.
Speaking to Goodison News, King said: “It’s very messy. I can’t see them having much chance of that to be honest, they bounced back the following season, so they earned money to go down and they earned money to come up.
“No, I don’t think they are going to get very far with that. Obviously somebody has looked at it, a lawyer perhaps, and if they’re going to sue the Premier League, then who else will sue the Premier League, whoever else went down that year? I can’t see that being stood up.”
Do Burnley have a case against Everton?
It was quite some time ago that the Clarets were demoted to the Championship, with Burnley finishing 18th in the season in question.
Everton finished four points ahead in 16th place, but would have instead been relegated had the six-point deduction been handed out back then.

Burnley are, however, back in the top flight once more, but they look set to immediately drop back down again, although the Toffees are also in danger this time around.
