Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite tipped to replace Man United defender Harry Maguire in England squad
Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite deserves an England call-up, according to former Goodison Park scout Bryan King.
The verdict comes after the Daily Mail reported on Tuesday (5 March) that Gareth Southgate is considering the youngster amid a defensive crisis.
England meet Brazil and Belgium in international friendlies later this month, with Branthwaite potentially set to make his Three Lions debut.
When asked if his displays warrant an England call-up, King told Goodison News: “Yeah I think so, young centre-back, he’s proven himself in a very difficult season.
“I think he would be a decent replacement in these internationals, certainly for Harry Maguire for example. Maybe he needs a rest and Branthwaite can be brought in.
“Whether he’ll be brought in for the Euros, I don’t know, because Southgate will be wanting experience there.”
Will Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite make the England cut?
Southgate obviously has a long list of players to choose from, not only for the upcoming friendly matches but also for Euro 2024.
The Three Lions are in with a great chance of finally lifting the trophy this summer, but the manager must choose his squad wisely in order to clinch success.

Whether Branthwaite makes the cut remains to be seen, but his latest club displays suggest that he will be involved for England later this month at the very least.
