Michael Dawson fumes over ‘seething’ moment live on Sky Sports in Everton v Manchester United

Michael Dawson believes that Everton will be “seething” after Manchester United were awarded a second penalty at Old Trafford in a 2-0 loss on Saturday (9 March).

From a Toffees’ free-kick, United were quick to react and counterattack, with Ben Godfrey bringing Alejandro Garnacho down in the penalty area, leaving referee Simon Hooper with no other choice.

Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring with a spot-kick, stepping up to slot home after Garnacho was brought down by James Tarkowski, quickly putting the game out of sight for Everton.

Speaking live via Sky Sports News on Saturday (9 March, 1:05pm), Dawson said: “Everton will be seething with this. They have a long free-kick with Jordan Pickford just inside the United half.

“Tarkowski goes for the header, loses it, and it falls to Bruno Fernandes. Can they play forward and counterattack Everton? It goes into Garnacho, he keeps driving into the box, takes a touch and Ben Godfrey brings him down with a little nick.”

Can Everton avoid relegation from the Premier League?

The Toffees are currently fighting against the threat of relegation for the third successive season, just five points above Luton Town in the dropzone.

Even despite earning four points back from their original 10-point deduction after a successful appeal, Everton are still at risk of being exiled to the Championship.

Goals have been extremely hard to come by at Goodison Park, with Abdoulaye Doucoure leading the scoring list despite being out injured for a few weeks and only having six goals to his name this season.

Everton boss Sean Dyche
Sean Dyche’s Everton side have faced plenty of challenges both on and off the pitch this season.

Both Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto must step up if Everton are to survive, which the latter looks to have made a start with after netting in the 3-1 defeat to West Ham United on Saturday 2 March.

Sheffield United and Burnley are all but confirmed to be relegated, with Luton, Everton, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest all battling to stay in the first division.

In other Everton news, Jamie Carragher has suggested the Toffees deserve government cash for the stadium development.
