Wayne Rooney shares ‘Massive’ new Sean Dyche verdict in Everton relegation prediction

Wayne Rooney has defended Sean Dyche as manager of Everton and dropped a “massive” verdict as they fight against relegation.

The Toffees made it 11 games without a win as they fell to a 2-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford, leaving them five points above the relegation zone after their six point deduction.

And while appearing live on TNT Sports as a pundit before the game (9 March, 12:05pm), Rooney was asked by Joleon Lescott about the job Dyche has been doing and the former England captain praised him.

“I think Sean has done a good job,” he said. “It’s [points deduction] a concern. Hopefully they’ll get more points but everyone can’t do everything. Obviously, fans and everyone are worried in case they do [lose more points].

“I think for the last few seasons it’s been very difficult. Fighting relegation battles, point deductions, obviously the fans haven’t been very happy with the board.

“It’s been very broken so you just hope that, Everton is a massive football club and you just hope they can get back to close to where they were.

“I do think he’s doing a good job and obviously if they got the six points back which they lost then they’d be quite comfortable really and they’d stay in the league.

“So I think he is doing a good job and I know how difficult it is obviously working at Derby County with a big points deduction. It’s very tough.

“Sean always speaks well and keeps everyone together, and I think it’s going to be a massive last 10 games of the season to keep them in the league.”

Should Everton be worrying about relegation?

It’s been a long and hard season for the Toffees so far, and without a points deduction they would be comfortably in mid-table and 11 points ahead of the drop zone.

But they do have a points deduction and they’re also now winless in 11 games in the Premier League, and already out of all the cup competitions too.

While the team has been underperforming the xG all season and ordinarily hasn’t played like a team battling the drop, at some point something has to change.

Dyche has finally changed the striker after over 20 games without a goal for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but the rest of the team seems to pick itself and in this situation that shouldn’t be the case.

At some point, question marks need to be asked about the manager’s performance, and the fans should definitely be fearful of the drop if performances by the players don’t improve quickly.
