Everton: Finance expert moots PSR ‘mitigation’ in new Blues and Nottingham Forest points deduction verdict
Kieran Maguire has claimed Everton and Nottingham Forest could agree with the Premier League and the commission to reduce their possible points deductions.
The football finance expert insisted that both threatened clubs could agree to reduce possible points deductions by two points if they agree not to appeal the commission’s initial verdict.
It was also shared that Maguire has been made aware of when Forest will learn the outcome of their verdict, although he would not share the date on the podcast.
Speaking on The Price of Football podcast [14 March], Maguire shared: “There is a lot of frustration. We’ve been given a heads-up as to when the verdict on the Forest case is coming up, it’s a rumour and would not be appropriate to divulge.
“The commission is supposed to be independent of both the Premier League and the clubs. There are always mitigation routes.
“It could be that the advisors to both parties have said to take on the commission’s advice and agree to reduce that [penalty] by two points per club if they accept their verdict with no appeal. Everything is in play.”
Will Everton receive another Premier League points deduction?
Everton saw their previous ten-point deduction reduced to six in what was viewed as a success for the club, but they will have to go through the stress all over again when the verdict is given on their second profit and sustainability charge.
Given the likelihood of a second points deduction given the standard set by the Premier League and the independent commission, that deduction would be set at six points or perhaps lower depending on the situation.
It has previously been shared that any appeal could take the process beyond the end of the season, something which infuriated pundits, and so if there is a way around that, the clubs may be best placed to explore that option.

After Jordan Pickford revealed that the outcome of the previous points deduction, and later the appeal process, had started to weigh on the minds of the players at Goodison Park, the club will be desperate to avoid a repeat.
Given the stakes at play in the relegation battle, not just in terms of the points but the performances too, they cannot afford to slip up now.
