Everton tipped to beat Tottenham in Jacob Greaves transfer race after Jarrad Branthwaite update
Everton will offer Hull City defender Jacob Greaves a better opportunity to impress in the Premier League than Tottenham Hotspur, according to Carlton Palmer.
Reports emerged linking the Toffees with the “outstanding” Tigers centre-back as Sean Dyche looks to add to his defensive options during the summer transfer window [The Mirror, 5 March] especially as Jarrad Branthwaite continues to be linked with a move away.
While Spurs are also in the race for Greaves’ signature this summer, Palmer believes Everton will offer the 23-year-old consistent minutes should they complete a “big money” move to bring him to Goodison Park.
As quoted by Football League World (15 March) he said: “Everton are bracing themselves for Jarrad Branthwaite to leave in the summer, and I think Greaves is ready to start in the Premier League.
“He’s under contract until the summer of 2026 so Hull are in the position to demand big money for him to leave, and with Branthwaite going Everton will be getting big money in.
“I think Everton is a better move for him than Spurs, because he is likely to get more game time at Everton. If he went to Tottenham I think he would have to wait his time, whereas Everton are losing Branthwaite so it will be a straight swap and he will be going in and it will be a good move for Jacob.”
Will Everton beat Tottenham to the signing of Jacob Greaves in the transfer window?
It is clear that the Toffees could do with another defensive option at Goodison Park as they look destined to lose Branthwaite with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United circling the 21-year-old following his England call-up.
Should Dyche’s side sell Branthwaite this summer, it will be for a big fee and that money will likely be spent on his replacement as the Toffees will need a new centre-back who is capable of partnering James Tarkowski.

Whether Everton are plying their trade in the Premier League or the Championship remains to be seen, but Greaves’ form this season has suggested that he will be more than capable of making the jump to England’s top flight.
Hopefully, the Toffees will be able to find a way to keep Branthwaite at Goodison Park beyond the end of the summer transfer window, but if not, it is clear that Dyche and his recruitment team have a contingency plan on Merseyside.
