Sky Sports journalist tips Coventry City star for Everton transfer after what he did v Wolves
Sky Sports journalist Ben Grounds has named Coventry star Jake Bidwell as a player who would “fit in perfect” at Everton after what he did in the 3-2 win over Wolves.
The Championship side secured their spot in the FA Cup semi-finals after a stunning comeback 3-2 win with Bidwell playing all 90 minutes of the game.
But after his cross failed to be converted by Ellis Simms and Wolves then counter-attacked to score and equalise in the game, Grounds took to his personal Twitter account (16 March) to recommend the 30-year-old to the Toffees.
“Jake Bidwell puts in an absolute peach of a cross before Wolves go down the other end and score,” he wrote.
“Instantly think he would fit in perfectly in this Everton team.”
Everton problems clear for all to see
Whether Grounds genuinely believes that Bidwell would be a good fit for Everton or he just saw the irony in missed chances coming back to bite the team is unclear.
However, it seems more likely that it was a dig at the Toffees being unable to take their chances this season and then losing games as a result.
No team in the Premier League has underperformed their xG like Everton this season, and with a six-point deduction the club now find themselves firmly in a relegation battle.
With a reliable goalscorer in the side the team would surely be safely in mid-table and looking up at a potential European place rather than over their shoulder at the Championship.
Instead Dominic Calvert-Lewin has gone over 20 games without a goal and Beto has struggled too. Creating chances isn’t an issue and full-back is an area where the team is strong, so Bidwell certainly isn’t needed.
