Everton want to sign Chelsea loanee Alex Matos in summer transfer window

Everton want to sign Chelsea-owned midfielder Alex Matos in a permanent transfer this summer, according to Football League World.

Writing on their website (20 March), the news outlet report that both the Toffees and Fulham are showing an interest in the 19-year-old despite a lack of senior first-team experience.

Everton are keeping tabs on his situation with a host of top European clubs such as Lille, Bayer Leverkusen and PSV Eindhoven also interested although Chelsea would prefer to loan the player out rather than sell him as he continues to develop.

Everton shopping in the Championship is a good thing

The transfer business that Everton have been involved in recently has been pretty good, but it’s also been expensive and the club need to find a new route to strengthen the squad.

Amadou Onana has been fantastic but cost upwards of £33m, while Beto was also expensive and players like James Garner, Vitalii Mykolenko and Dwight McNeil have all been great signings who cost a fair amount.

But with the financial position that the club currently finds itself in, and with the 777 Partners takeover seemingly hitting the rocks, the club need to find a new direction to strengthen the squad.

Everton boss Sean Dyche
Sean Dyche’s Everton side have faced plenty of challenges both on and off the pitch this season.

Shopping in the Championship is usually a cheaper option when it comes to transfer fees and wages, but also means you can catch top talents early on and make a profit in the future and Matos has been dubbed “extraordinary” before.

If Sean Dyche can navigate away from relegation once again then this could be the start of a new era at Goodison Park and it could be the right way to go.

In other Everton news, one Champions League club have identified a Toffees star as the player they like the most for the summer transfer window.
